Pastor Ruth, Part Time Interim Pastor
Rev Ruth Jensen-Forbell
Rev Ruth is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. She was raised in the Lutheran church and remained active throughout her adult life before coming to Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC).
A graduate of UCF as an Educational Media Specialist, Ruth worked as an Elementary School Media Specialist (Librarian) while pursuing credentials in Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC). She was ordained in 1996, and served as Minister of Education and Outreach at St Luke’s MCC in Jacksonville before founding FirstCoast MCC in St Augustine, Florida in 1997.
Through her work at FirstCoast MCC, Rev Ruth started Pride in St Augustine, hosting it at the church for the first couple of years before moving it to downtown St Augustine. During that time, with the help of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, she successfully sued the City of St Augustine to allow Pride to fly rainbow flags on the bridge and waterfront. Rev Ruth also helped organize and lead the Community AIDS Coalition of St Augustine for many years, spoke at area colleges, and is still active in several community organizations.
Rev Ruth “retired” in January 2017 as Senior Pastor, but is still active in MCC. She serves on the MCC Emerging Ministries Team, the Habitat for Humanity Selection Committee, and the Jacksonville Community Advisory Board and conducts worship services at River Garden Retirement Center. She is excited about her time at Cornerstone and looks forward to getting to know all of you.
Ruth and her wife of 29+ years, Elizabeth, share their home in Jacksonville with their cats Zora and Toni and their Dobermans Libby and Zach.
