Missing Pieces

Rev Sara Sills

Scripture: Psalm 51:1-10 and Luke 15:1-10.

The picture that Jesus drew of God was one of unrelenting love for people. Jesus taught that God is like a shepherd, who does not count the costs, but who goes after a lost sheep no matter what. Jesus described God as one who will go to the utmost extremes to find us when we have lost our way.

That is also the model that the church is called to follow. Our church is like a jigsaw puzzle with pieces of all colors and shapes. Together, we make a lovely picture. But when even one piece is missing, the picture is flawed and incomplete. We are not whole until we are all in our places.

Like a shepherd, we, as Christ's disciples, must take responsibility for the missing pieces in our lives. This week, we will take a look at how pieces of our Cornerstone puzzle have been misplaced and what we need to do to bring them home safely like the sheep is returned by the loving shepherd.

Join us for worship this Sunday as we take a look at what it costs to be a follower of Jesus. Believe me, the cost is nothing in comparison to the rewards!

Cornerstone Crew

Saturday, September 14, the Cornerstone Crew will be engaging in a day of service at Door to Serenity. The project will include painting and basic repairs. Bring painting equipment if you have it. The address is 71 Lee Street in Chickasaw. We will get started at 8:00am and finish in time for football!

Afternoon At The Movie

Join the Cornerstone Crew for an afternoon at the movies on Sunday, September 15. We will gather at the Hollywood Cinema on Satchel Paige Drive in McGowin Park on Sunday at 3:00pm to enjoy the movie Overcomer. It is the inspiring story of great achievement in the face of great difficulty. Everyone is welcome!

Building What Matters!

Our Building What Matters effort has gotten off to a strong start. We have already received $3500 in pledges toward our goal of $15000. If you haven't returned your pledge card, please pray about what you can give and turn in your card so the Board can continue its work on this important campaign. There is a giving level for everyone!

Media Team

We are looking for people interested in joining the Media Team. We will be doing a training class soon. Please contact Kay for more information.

Coffee with the Pastor

You are invited to have a cup of coffee with the pastor after worship on Sunday, September 22. This will be a time for discussing a capital campaign we are launching on September 1 to pay down the principal balance on our mortgage.

Cornerstone Cookbook

We are still collecting recipes for our cookbook fundraiser. Please email recipes to Andrea Yohn. If they are for a special diet please note which one. For example, Keto, Atkins, Whole 30 etc.

Helper Board

People are always asking what they can do around our campus to help keep it ready for ministry. We have a new way for you to get involved! We have put up a HELPER board in the What’s Next? Corner. There you will find popsicle sticks with tasks both large and small that need to be done around our campus. Please choose a task and when it is done just drop the stick in the box on the table so we can keep track of volunteer hours.

Cornerstone Mailbox

The Cornerstone Mailbox is located in the rear of the Sanctuary. Please use it to share cards and letters with other church members. Drop the “postage” cost in the offering plate! Be sure to check for mail left for you every week after worship service.

Mobile Alabama Pride

Fellowship House Restoration

Help fund the restoration of our Fellowship House! Thanks to some wonderful people, CMCC has a Go Fund Me account (www.gofundme.com/fellowshiphouserestoration). We will be applying for grants. Many grant agencies require evidence that the applicant is trying to raise funds. Some require matching funds. Check out the site, donate, and share information on your Facebook and/or your Twitter account(s) so your friends can donate too. This link has already been posted to CMCC's Facebook and Twitter accounts for you to share.

Adopt-a-Bill

Help Cornerstone MCC by relieving some of your church's financial pressures. In addition to your usual giving consider paying one of our recurring bills. Some are yearly, some are quarterly and some are monthly. The monthly bills have been averaged over the past year. Currently there are fourteen bills, ten are monthly, one is quarterly, and three are yearly.

Place check or cash for the amount in an envelope, write name of bill on the outside and your name (if you wish to remain anonymous no name is necessary) and put in offering plate. Payment (cash or check) may also be mailed to: Cornerstone MCC, Attn: Adopt-a-Bill, 1007 Government Street, Mobile, Alabama 36604.

You may choose to pay a bill for one month, three months or the whole year...however you feel lead to use the financial gifts God has blessed you with.

If you have questions, need information or want to sign-up, see Sheilah or Carol. A list of bills and amounts are on the bulletin board in the foyer and in the Fellowship House.

Conflict Resolution Policy

A Conflict Resolution Policy was presented at the Board of Directors meeting. A motion was passed to rename it "Cornerstone Guidelines for Conflict Resolution" and to recommend all members and friends print out a copy and review it. It will also be included in New Member packets. It is our hope that this document will remind us that conflicts will occur, and there are positive ways to deal with them as Christian brothers and sisters.
